Position: Merchant Acquisition Lead

Location: Singapore


Experience: 5-7 years in B2B field sales, with hands-on merchant acquisition experience in payments, fintech, or merchant platforms.

 This is a hands-on, field-intensive position. You'll spend considerable time meeting business owners in person, building genuine relationships, and personally closing merchant partnerships. Success requires understanding diverse merchant needs, navigating objections with confidence, and continuously refining your approach based on real-world feedback.

You will build and lead a merchant acquisition team from the ground up. This is a hands-on leadership role—you'll recruit and train your team while actively participating in merchant acquisition yourself. Success means being in the field with your team, not just managing from a desk. If you're seeking a pure strategic or enterprise partnership role, this isn't the right fit.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Field Sales & Direct Merchant Engagement

•                    Personally meet business owners face-to-face to pitch ShopNJoy and close partnerships

•                    Build genuine relationships with merchant owners and decision-makers

•                    Handle objections, negotiate terms, and guide merchants through onboarding

•                    Achieve monthly merchant acquisition targets (target volume to be agreed)

•                    Stay actively involved in merchant acquisition alongside your team

2. Team Building & Leadership

•                    Recruit, hire, and train a field sales team with strong merchant acquisition experience

•                    Develop training materials and sales playbooks based on proven strategies

•                    Coach team members on objection handling, relationship building, and closing techniques

•                    Foster a culture of hustle, resilience, and collaboration

•                    Lead by example—be in the field with your team

3. Sales Process & Pipeline Management

•                    Optimize the merchant acquisition workflow—from initial outreach to successful onboarding

•                    Build and manage a robust pipeline of merchant leads

•                    Create innovative lead generation channels (partnerships, events, referrals, territory mapping)

•                    Track performance metrics: conversion rates, onboarding speed, merchant activation

•                    Implement systems for consistent team performance

4. Cross-functional Collaboration

•                    Work closely with Product and Operations to relay merchant feedback and insights

•                    Partner with Marketing to refine messaging that resonates with merchants

•                    Collaborate on improving the merchant onboarding experience based on field learnings

•                    Provide market intelligence to inform business decisions

5. Strategy & Scalability

•                    Develop scalable merchant acquisition strategies based on field insights

•                    Identify merchant segments with highest conversion potential

•                    Monitor competitor platforms and adapt tactics accordingly

•                    Set team KPIs and performance benchmarks

•                    Build processes that enable rapid scaling


 What We're Looking For:

Must-Haves:

•                    5-7 years in B2B field sales, with at least 3 years in hands-on merchant acquisition or SME sales

•                    Direct experience signing up brick-and-mortar merchants across various business types

•                    Knowledge of merchant payment/platform ecosystems—understanding how merchants evaluate and adopt new platforms

•                    Proven track record of personally closing high-volume merchant deals (ideally 50+ merchants/year)

•                    Comfortable with field-based prospecting and in-person relationship building

•                    Strong relationship-building skills—you genuinely enjoy engaging with business owners

•                    Experience recruiting and coaching sales teams (even small teams of 2-5 people)

•                    Bilingual proficiency (English + Mandarin/Malay/Tamil) is a strong advantage

Nice-to-Haves:

•                    Experience in a startup or high-growth environment

•                    Understanding of fintech, payments, or SaaS sales models

•                    Previous experience building a sales function from scratch

•                    Knowledge of Singapore's merchant landscape

•                    You prefer enterprise-level strategic partnerships over SME field sales

•                    You're uncomfortable with regular field visits and in-person prospecting

•                    You haven't personally signed up merchants in the past 2 years

•                    You're looking primarily for a desk-based strategy or planning role

•                    You need a fully established team and processes to succeed
